High-Power Diode Laser Prototype for Nuclear Fusion

Role: Electronics & Software Engineer Duration: 1 year

Design of a first-generation, fully custom high-power diode laser system for nuclear fusion applications, in collaboration with electronics, mechanical and laser specialists at Amplitude Laser company.

  • PCB design, development and testing of control electronics boards for laser command and safety.
  • Defining system logic, selecting components, creating electronic schematics and routing with differential pairs.
  • Developed a Raspberry Pi CM5 control board to manage all sensors and actuators communicating in SPI and UART, replacing legacy systems.
  • Designed additional I/O boards and defined system-wide architecture and cable routing.
  • Implemented Linux-based control software with multithreaded test algorithms and an HMI.
  • Structured object-oriented code for easy reuse on future laser platforms.

Robotic Demonstrator for Industrial Fairs

Role: Mechatronics Engineer (autonomous project) Duration: 6 months

Design and build of a robotic demonstrator to showcase the reliability, ease of use and automation potential of Axon’Cable connectors.

  • Mechanical design and fabrication (laser cutting, 3D printing and machining) of tools for manipulating specific connectors.
  • Development of a mechanical and electrical tool-changer for rapid tool swapping.
  • Implementation of video-feedback control for precise alignment between the arm and rotary support.
  • Design of position-recognition and safety logic to make the system plug-and-play and idiot-proof.
  • Integration of sensors, actuators and electronics for robust, reliable operation.
  • Design of a compact embedded circuit board for the control of different tools.
  • Testing for implementation of plastronics process.

Leather Book with Integrated Electronics

Personal project

Design and fabrication of a custom leather book with integrated LED lighting and wireless charging, combining electronics, 3D design, leather and casting craftsmanship.

  • 3D modelling of the cover design in Fusion 360.
  • Custom PCB for battery charge/discharge and LED control, with induction charger in the cover.
  • Laser-cut covers and 3D-printed stamps for leather embossing.
  • Refinement of the leather process: forming, glueing, embossing and gold foil lettering.
  • Sand casting of decorative metal ornaments for the cover.

Jewelry – Ceramic & Metal Casting

Collaboration with an artist

Realization of signet rings, medals and bracelets through a full ceramic-casting workflow, from digital model to precious metal.

  • 3D models created from hand-drawn artwork.
  • 3D printed prototypes and SLA wax models for casting.
  • Ceramic investment molds prepared with vacuum-assisted bubble removal and firing up to 900 °C.
  • Hermetic vacuum chamber and induction smelter used for silver casting.
  • Post-processing: trimming, sanding, polishing and optional gold plating.

3D Architectural Models

Collaboration with architects

Production of detailed architectural models combining 3D printing, laser cutting and integrated lighting.

  • Built two architectural models using a mix of 3D printed parts and laser-cut elements.
  • Added ambient lighting to highlight internal volumes and facades.
  • Used an Arduino Nano and a power switch to control lighting scenarios.

Leather Accessories

Personal work

Creation of leather accessories using custom patterns, laser cutting and traditional leatherworking techniques, with a personal gold-leaf logo.

  • Pattern design and laser cutting/engraving of cow leather.
  • Edge beveling, skiving, burnishing with Gum Tragacanth and structural assembly with rivets.
  • Production of toiletry bags and glasses cases for personal use and family.
